Rome’s Forgotten War

The Cantabrian War was launched by Rome against the Cantabrian tribes of northern Spain. Lasting ten years, it was the Roman Empire’s first war of conquest, the only battle that Emperor Caesar Augustus led in person, and it led to the total destruction of the last Celtic people in the Mediterranean. Now, archaeologists are unearthing vast amounts of evidence and rewriting the history of this conflict. This long-overlooked story is so compelling that I plan to make it the subject of a documentary film.
